Effect of Cryogenic Treatment on Property of 14Cr2Mn2V High Chromium Cast Iron Subjected to Subcritical Treatment

Effect of cryogenic treatment on the microstructure, hardening behavior and abrasion resistance of 14Cr2Mn2V high chromium cast iron (HCCI) subjected to subcritical treatment was investigated. The results show that cryogenic treatment after subcritical treatment can obviously improve the hardness and abrasion resistance of HCCI because abundant retained austenite is transformed into martensite and fine secondary carbides [(Fe, Cr)23C6] precipitate. The amount of martensite and precipitated secondary carbide in HCCI experiencing subcritical treatment followed by cryogenic treatment was more than that experiencing the subcritical treatment followed by air cooling. When the abrasion resistance of HCCI reaches the maximum, its microstructure contains about 15% retained austenite. Cryogenic treatment can further reduce the austenite content but the retained austenite cannot be transformed into martensite completely.

Fluid Flow and Interfacial Phenomenon of Slag and Metal in Continuous Casting Tundish With Argon Blowing

The fluid flow and the interfacial phenomenon of slag and metal in tundish with gas blowing were studied with mathematical and physical modeling, and the effects of gas flowrate, the placement of porous beam for the generation of bubbles, and the combination of flow control devices on the flow and slagmetal interface were investigated. The results show that the position of gas bubbling has a significant effect on the flow in tundish, and the placement of porous beam and gas flowrate are the two main factors affecting the entrapment of slag in tundish. The closer the porous beam to the weir, the more reasonable is the flow, which is in favor of the control of slag entrapment in tundish.

Static Recrystallization Behavior of Twin Roll Cast Low-Carbon Steel Strip

The static recrystallization kinetics of low-carbon steel cast strip was investigated by means of interrupted hot tensile tests. As-cast strip was reheated and soaked and its austenite grain size was similar to the width level of the as-cast columnar structure. The tests were carried out on Gleeble-3500 thermomechanical simulator. The deformation temperature is in the range of 800 to 1200 ℃ with strain rate of 001 to 1 s-1. The prestrain is fixed at 004 to 012, and the inter-hit delay time varies from 1 to 3000 s. Effect of deformation conditions and initial microstructure on static recrystallization behavior was investigated. The activation energy (Qsrx) and Avrami exponent (n) of static recrystallization were determined to have 241 kJ/mol and 054 respectively by linear regression of the experimental results. A kinetics model was proposed to describe the static recrystallization kinetics in low-carbon steel cast strip. The predicted softening fractions are in good agreement with the experimental results, indicating that the proposed equations can give an accurate estimate of the softening behaviors for the low-carbon steel cast strip.

Cooling Efficiency of Laminar Cooling System for Plate Mill

Heat transfer was researched from a perspective of the industry application. On the basis of the first law of thermodynamics, the cooling efficiency was deduced from the change of enthalpy inside hot plate. The relationship between the cooling efficiency and its influencing parameters was regressed from plenty of data collected from the worksite and discussed in detail. The temperature profiles resulting from the online model and the model modified by regressed formulas were presented and compared. The results indicated that the control accuracy of the modified model was increased obviously.

Calculation Method of Optimal Speed Profile for Hot Plate During Controlled Cooling Process

The healthy and rapid development of the controlled cooling technology was hampered by the uneven cooling phenomenon. During the process of hot plate production, the homogeneous cooling along the length direction of plate was constrained by lots of factors. And because the speed was a flexible control parameter, the calculation method of optimal speed profile was developed based on the measured start cooling temperature and its matrix equation was solved by the Cholesky decomposition method. The optimal speed profile was used in online control system. As a result, the temperature distribution along the plate length direction was relatively uniform, and 95% of measured final cooling temperature difference from the target temperature 700 ℃ was controlled within ±20 ℃.

Two-step magnetization in a spin-chain system on the triangular lattice: Wang-Landau simulation

The Wang-Landau algorithm is used to study the thermodynamic and magnetic properties of triangular spin-chain system based on two-dimensional Ising model in order to understand the magnetic-order dynamics in Ca(3)Co(2)O(6) compound. The calculated results demonstrate that the equilibrium state of the rigid spins produces the two-step magnetization curve at low temperature even when the random-exchange term is considered. This work indicates that the four-step magnetization behavior observed experimentally must be due to the nonequilibrium magnetization.

The morphology of the dark and bright regions observed by transmission electron microscopy for the Zr(64.13)Cu(15.75)Ni(10.12)Al(10) bulk metallic glass strongly depends on the ion beam parameters used for ion milling. This indicates that the ion beam could introduce surface fluctuation to metallic glasses during ion milling.

Effect of interstitial hydrogen on cohesive strength of Al grain boundary with Mg segregation

The effect of interstitial hydrogen on the cohesion of the Al Sigma=11(113) grain boundary (GB) is investigated based on the thermodynamic model of Rice-Wang using the first-principles density function calculation. The results indicate that interstitial H behaves as an embrittler from "strengthening energy" analysis. The reduced GB cohesion due to the presence of H at the GB is attributed to the low affinity between H and Al, and the weakened bonding of Al atomic pairs perpendicular to GB plane.
