STUDY OF RECOVERY IN DEFORMED Ni-Cr-Co SUPERALLOYS USING POSITRON ANNIHILATION

The recovery recrystallization of 3 deformed Ni-Cr-Co superalloys with different Co con- tents has been studied using positron annihilation technique and TEM.The alloys with low Co content have more defects occurred than ones with high Co content,and the former may be faster in dislocation recovery than the latter.Thus,the apparent activation energy of recrystallization increases with the increase of their Co content in alloys.The relationship be- tween apparent activation energy and stacking fault energy together with their effect on re- covery were also discussed.

ON DISCONTINUOUS REINFORCED NiAl-BASED COMPOSITES

Mechanically alloyed NiAl-TiB_2-Y_2O_3 composite (volume percentage of dispersoids about 15v%) was prepared by hot pressing. The compressive properties of the composite from 300 K to 1360 K were tested and the microstructures were studied mainly by TEM. The yield strengths of the composite at room temperature and high temperatures are considerably higher than that of monolithic NiAl and also is higher than similar NiAl-based composites which contained higher content of dispersoids but showed coarser microstructure. The possible strengthening mechanisms working in the composite are discussed.

The present paper summarizes the current status of high resolution elect;on microscopy ( HREM) and the applications of HREM to materials science and condensed matter physics. This review recounts the latest development of high resolution electron microscope, progress of HREM and the applications of HREM, including the crystal structure determination of microcrystalline materials and characterization of the local structure of the defects and nanostructured materials as well as qualitative and quantitative analysis of the grain boundaries, interfaces and interfacial reactions in the advanced materials by means of HREM in combination with electron diffraction, subnanometer level analysis, image simulation and image processing.
