In this paper,part of the research and development work in the field of spray formed superalloys at BIAM of China is briefly summarized. With an experimental spray forming facility,whose melting capacity is suitable for making disk and columnar shaped integral-dense and clean Ni-base superalloy preforms with low oxygen content,fine grain, uniform chemistry and improved forgeability, a series of Ni-base superalloys have been spray atomized and deposited, among which three alloys have been chosen for microstructural and mechanical properties evaluation.

The microstructures of the grain boundary phases in Fe-Ni-Co-Nb-Ti superalloy have been studied by high resolution electron microscopy (HREM).Besides the Laves phase,three other grain boundary phases have been found and analyzed. The ε phase particles are needle-like with some stacking faults along the(0001) direction. The dominant phase at the grain boundaries is the orthorhombic phase that is also rod-like. High reselution image also confirms the existence of the triclinic phase at the grain boundaries that is irregular and scarce.

INVESTIGATIONS ON THE FORMATION OF INITIAL CRACKS IN THERMAL BARRIER COATINGS PREPARED BY EB-PVD

This paper deals with the mechanism of the formation of initial cracks in the yttria partially stabilized zirconia thermal barrier coatings prepared by EB-PVD method.The microcracks were only recognized inside the ceramic top coat of the thermalcycled TBCs. SEM/EDS observations indicated that some special oxides exist in the area just below the cracks.It seems that the formation of the initial cracks can result from the oxidation stress as well as the thermal stress.

GALVANIC CORROSION BETWEEN GRAPHITE EPOXY COMPOSITE MATERIALS AND LY12CZ ALUMINUM ALLOY

The electrochemical approach was used to show the nature of the galvanic corrosion when graphite epoxy composite materials(GECM)were coupled to LY12CZ aluminum alloy. An open circuit potential difference of one volt was obtained in 3.5% NaCl solution between GECM and LY12CZ. Corrosion current data (zero impedance technique) indicated that there was serious corrosion at GECM/LY12CZ couple.When GECM/LY12CZ couples were exposed to ASTM salt spray and alternate immersion condition, fiber glass cloth and H06-2 epoxy primer paint were effective methods for preventing galvanic corrosion.The slow strain rate test (SSRT) showed that GECM increased the LY12CZ stress corrosion crack growth rate.

Influences of sulphureous impurity and micro-shrinkage on hydrogen assisted cracking (HAC) and fracture behavior of the super-strength low-alloy steel 40CrMnSzMo VA have been studied in this paper.By way of scanning electron microfractography (SEM)and electron probe microanalyser to investigate the fractography of material constantly strained to failure, it was found that the microscopic segregation of sulphureous impurity and micro-shrinkage not only increased strongly the susceptibility to hydrongen embrittlement (HE), but also made the HAC to initiate preferably in such regions with the assistant of stress induced diffusion of hydrogen. The microscopic observation revealed that the steel has commonly intergranular (IG) and quasi-cleavage (QC)features around the segregation of sulphureous impurity and micro-shrinkage for their strong effects of irreversible traps for hydrogen.

NEAR RAPID DIRECTIONAL SOLIDIFICATION AND ITS SUPERFINE MICROSTRUCTURE

This paper briefly reviews the recent research on the near rapid directional solidification and microstructure superfining. The morphology transitions and the corresponding mechanical properties are presented. The critical velocities relevant to the morphology transitions are comprehensively given. Meanwhile the solidification characteristics near absolute stability limit are studied.It can be clearly seen that the superfine microstructures possess extremely better properties compared with the conventional microstructures.

ON THE STRENGTHENING MECHANISM OF HIGH Co-Ni ULTRAHIGH STRENGTH STEEL

In this paper, the microstructure and strengthening mechanism of 23NiCo steel were studied by transmission electron microscopy and atom-probe field-ion microscopy. The results show that the peak strength obtained when the steel is tempered at 440455℃is due to the precipitation of coherent zones of fine carbides.The peak in toughness attained at the absence of cementite and the formation of reverted and stable austenite.Tempering at higher temperatures resulted in loss of both strength and toughness. The drop of the strength of the steel tempered at high temperature is due to precipitation coarsening and loss of coherence with the matrix.

含金三元合金系的研究进展(1996~2007年)

评述了1996~2007年国际上对含金三元合金系相图、相变的研究进展.1996年以来,在主要国际专业刊物上发表了30多个三元金合金系相图的部分等温截面或纵截面,采用实验方法研究相图的工作占了绝大部分.在所研究的上述三元金合金系中,Au-Sn基合金系有11个,Au-Ag基合金系有6个,Au-Cu和Au-Sb基合金系各有4个,Au-Mn和Au-Si基合金系各有2个.这些合金系目前涉及到的主要应用领域为:钎焊材料、电触头材料、电子材料、磁性材料、形状记忆合金材料、金属离子源材料和喷丝头材料等.含金三元合金系的研究反映了当前对新型金合金功能材料的需求动向, 对指导促进相关新合金材料的开发有重要意义.
