SIMULATION OF THE MICROSTRUCTURE DISTRIBUTION OF HYDROGEN STORAGE ALLOY AND OPTIMAL DESIGN OF CASTING MOULDS

In this paper,a simulation model for the temperature field in the solidification process and microstructure distribution is presented. Then, the result of simulation for the final microstructure distribution is compared with experiment using 10-Kg ingot of MlNi3.55Al0.3Mn0.4CO0.75 (Ml: Lanthanum-rich Mischmetal) hydrogen stor- age alloy cast in a mould, which agrees with the experiment well. Finally, in order to obtain the expected as-cast microstructure distribution of 15-Kg ingot of MlNi3.55Al0.3Mn0.4Co0.75 alloy, the size of Cu mould is optimized using the model described. The optimized mould is then made and the alloy is cast in it, the expected as-cast microstructure distribution is obtained.

Journal of Materials Research

The morphology of the dark and bright regions observed by transmission electron microscopy for the Zr(64.13)Cu(15.75)Ni(10.12)Al(10) bulk metallic glass strongly depends on the ion beam parameters used for ion milling. This indicates that the ion beam could introduce surface fluctuation to metallic glasses during ion milling.

Relationship between elongation and porosity for high porosity metal materials

Transactions of Nonferrous Metals Society of China

A simplified model was proposed targeting at the isotropic high porosity metal materials with well-distributed structure. From the model the mathematical relationship between elongation and porosity was deduced for those materials, and the relationship formula was derived generally for actual high porosity metals at last, whose validity is supported by the representative experiment on a nickel foam prepared by electrodeposition.

The effects of stress components on nucleation sites and propagation directions of stress cor- rosion cracks in brass were investigated with specimens under mode Ⅱ and mode Ⅲ loadings. The results indicated that under mode Ⅱ loading,stress corrosion cracks nucleated on the site with maximum normal stress component and propagated along the plane perpendieular to the maximum normal stress,under mode Ⅲ loading,the stress corrosion crack was not evident on the 45°plane due to the general corrosion in aqueous solution with high NH_4OH concentra- tion,while stress corroded in aqueous solution with low NH_4OH concentration, numerous cracks with spacings of 10—150μm were found on the 45°plane with maximum normal stress and no stress corrosion cracks was observed on the plane with maximum shear stress.

Calculation formula for apparent electrical resistivity of high porosity metal materials

A geometrical model has been established based on the structure feature of high porosity metal materials, the mathematical relationship between electrical resistivity and porosity for high porosity materials with even structure has then been deduced conveniently, and the formula for calculating the electrical resistivity of high porosity materials through porosity, which is easy to know, has been acquired further. Besides, the theoretical formula was verified to coincide with the test results well by the application taking nickel foam as an example.

Influence of Metal Oxides on the Arc Erosion Behaviour of Silver Metal Oxides Electrical Contact Materials

In the present work investigations have been made to see the role of metal oxides on the performance of the silver metal oxides electrical contact materials. Silver metal oxide materials of three different compositions Ag-10CdO, Ag-7.6SnO2-2.3In2O3 and Ag-10ZnO were prepared by internal oxidation process under identical processing conditions. These materials were tested for electrical conductivity, hardness, and erosion loss. Performing an accelerated test on the actual contactor assessed the electrical performance, involving erosion loss and temperature rise of the processed materials. The arc-eroded surface was characterized under scanning electron microscope. The study of the eroded surfaces of contacts indicates that the thermal stability of metal oxides depends on nature of silver-metal oxide interface and their mode of erosion. An attempt is made to correlate the surface features of the eroded contacts with the thermal stability of metal oxides.

Study on the Relationship Between J-Integral and COD

J-integral and crack opening displacement δ(COD) were important parameters for characterization of fractures in engineering materials. The relationship between J-integral and COD has been investigated for a long time and was enerally represented as J = m σyδ, where σy is the yield strength and m is a function of specimen geometry and material properties. To determine the value of m, extensive studies and experiments have been performed. The method that used the fracture-surface topography analysis (FRASTA) for determining J-integral from fracture surfaces of materials was introduced. On the basis of the relationship between COD and fracture surface average profile, the relationship between J-integral and COD was deduced and compared with the generally used equation. The method was experimentally confirmed to be able to provide a new way to determine the relationship between J-integral and COD.

Water-Air Mixing Jet Produced by Electro-hydraulic Impulse Technology Strengthening the Quality of Surface of Metal Materials

Electro-hydraulic impulse water-air mixing jet by which the quality of metal materials can be improved is described in this paper. The experimental results proved that the hardness and the micro-hardness of the surface layer of metal materials can be improved with this method, for example, the microhardness of CrWMn can be increased by 35.62 percent.

M40J和T300碳纤维的微结构

利用SEM、TEM、XPS、XRD、Raman和元素分析仪分析了M40J和T300的表面化学、物理及微观结构特征.研究发现:M40J含碳量高于T300纤维,而含氮量低于T300纤维,且表面活性基团比T300纤维低;M40J和T300碳纤维表面具有大量沟槽,前者相对长而浅,后者相对短而深;T300纤维端面皮芯结构明显,而M40J端面结构较均匀;M40J的微晶结构及取向性优于T300碳纤维.
