In this study the process of cladding steel wires with aluminum is investigated experimentally. It is studied how the cladding process and the quality of products are influenced by the aluminum deformation temperature, the wheel speed, the temperature of steel wire, the wire speed and the steel wire tensile force. The relation among the process parameters above is discussed, and the effect of the aluminum deformation temperature on the coating microstructure is analyzed. This paper suggested a reasonable range of process parameters for producing aluminum cladding steel wires.

Specially designed wire-drawing equipment with multiple electropulse generator was introduced. The influences of multiple electropulses processing on the microstructure and properties of the hardened steel wire were investigated. Samples treated by direct current under the same current density as that in multiple electropulses processing were carried out for contrast analysis. The results show that the optimized parameters of multiple electropulses processing will be facilitated to increase the nucleation rate and slow down the growth rate of recrystallized grains. Consequently, massive superfine grains of micro and sub-micro scale could be found in the steel wire. Thereby, the elongation was significantly enhanced with a relatively small strength reduction in comparison with as-received cold-drawing steel wires. Outstanding mechanical properties of steel wire were obtained.

The force feed lubrication method is used for drawing aluminum clad steel wire. It is studied how deformation of wire and aspect of the lubricant film are influenced by the die angle, the reduction, the drawing speed and the gap between pressure die and wire. It has been concluded that when the factors above mentioned promote to thicken lubricant film, the drawing force is reduced and this favors the homogenous deformation of aluminum coating and steel core.

Based on the discussing of the mechanisms of grain refinement strengthening and deformation induced transformation, the characteristics of controlled rolling and controlled cooling for high-speed wire were analyzed. Aiming at the problems of wire mill in Anshan Iron & Steel Co., turbulent cooler and spray cooler on the Stelmor conveyor were developed. Super-steels had been developed for Q235 steel through unrecrystallized austenite region rolling. The constitution and properties of the wire on the coil overlap zone were also improved. This proved the possibility that super-steels can be developed in high-speed wire mill.

For settling the question of feeding speed in applying the cored-wire method to spheroidize ductile iron melt, ANSYS software was applied to simulate the heat transfer and mass transfer, and the melt time of the steel strip in the iron melt was determined by linking the heat transfer and mass transfer, and then the feeding speed was calculated. Conclusions have been drawn that the iron layer was formed on the surface of the cored-wire during the wire-feeding process. The thickness is 0.073 mm when the temperature of the iron melt is 1500℃, the time from formation to remelting of the iron layer is 0.063~s. When the temperature of the iron melt is below 1500$^{\circ}$C, the time taken for the steel strip to melt is rapidly shortened. When the temperature of the iron melt is above 1500℃, the variation amplitude of the steel strip melt change with time is gradually diminished. The melt time of the steel strip is rapidly increased with the increase of the steel strip thickness. When the temperature of the iron melt is 1500℃ and the carbon content is 4 %, the melt time of a steel strip, which has a thickness of 0.5 mm, isthrice that of a steel strip whose thickness is 0.3 mm. The calculation results of the feeding speed are basically in agreement with the applied feeding speed in the factory.

Compared with using semi-automatic gas shielded arc welding, using automatic TANDEM twin wire welding and twin wire gas metal arc welding (GMAW) to weld Q690 steel, a low-alloy high-strength structural steel used in the hydraulic support in the fully-mechanized mining face, the welding speed, deposition rate, production environment and welding quality can be obviously improved. Compared with GMAW twin wire welding, a refined microstructure in the weld and heat-affected zone (HAZ), narrow HAZ and improved joint strength were achieved with TANDEM on Q690. Also, due to the push-pull pulsed way in TANDEM welding, the droplet transfer, distribution on heat flow and interaction between two arcs were completely different from those in GMAW twin wire system. The heat input of TANDEM is only about 766% of GMAW, and correspondingly, the welding speed and welding seam can be obviously improved. The complete oscillation caused by TANDEM pulsed current occurred in the welding pool, which refined the grains in the microstructure. The results show that TANDEM twin wire welding is very suitable in the welding of Q690 used in the hydraulic support.

Material properties were optimized through the linkage of numericalsimulation with the real rolling pro- cess. Localized corrosion of 304 stainless steel under droplets of 1 M sodium chloride solution was investigated by the wire beam electrode (WBE) method. It was found that the current distributions were heterogeneous with isolated anodic current peaks mostly located near the edge of the droplet. During the corrosion process, the stainless steel WBE exhibited the stochastic characteristics with the disappearance of some anodic sites. In addition, stainless steel suffered more serious localized corrosion with the increase of the droplet size.
