THE LIQUIDUS OF THE TERNARY Ag-Cu-Si ALLOY SYSTEM

The liquidus of the ternary Ag-Cd-Si alloy system in the Ag-Cu rich region was determined by DTA. The ternary Ag-Cd-Si system was divided into two ternary systems Ag-Cu-Cuo.76Si0.24 and Ag-Cu0.76Si0.24-Si by the section of Ag-Cu0.76 Si0.24.There is one ternary eutectic point for both the systems with the composition of 12. 5at. %Ag+71. 7at.%Cu+15.8at. %Si and 30at.% Ag+44.7at.%Cu+25.3at.%Sirespectivelg and the temperatures of the eutectic points are 740 and 705℃ respectively.

METASTABLE PHASES IN RAPIDLY-SOLIDIFIED ALUMINIUMRICH Al-Sm ALLOYS

The splat foils of Al-Sm alloys with 0.04-0.06mm in thickness were made by hammeranvil technique. The estimated cooling rute was 106K/ order of magnitude. The extended solid solubility of Sm in α-Al reached 0.5at. % Sm. The intermediate phase in the rapidlysolidified Al-Sm alloys is Al11Sm3 phase, which is stable only at temperatures above 1339K in equilibrium state and retained to ambient temperature as a metastable phase, whereas the equlibrium intermediate phase, Al3Sm, was restricted to occur.

700℃ ISOTHERMAL SECTION OF THE Pd-Ru-Gd PARTIAL PHASE DIAGRAM

The 700℃ isothermal section of the Pd-Ru-Gd partial ternary phase diagram containing more palladium than ruthenium was determined by X-rag diffraction analysis and optical microscopy. The section consists of seven single-phase regions,eleven two-phase regions and five three-phase regions. A new ternary compound Pd2RuGd2,which exhibits a tetragonal structure with a=0.7492 nm and c=0.7445 nm, has been found.

Mechanism of zinc damaging to blast furnace tuyere refractory

The phenomena of tuyere upward-warp have been found at No.6 blast furnace in Kunming Steel Company China after its blow-in, which has made a great impact on the practical production of the furnace. Thus, a number of efforts have been made to elucidate the mechanism of this phenomenon. The results of investigation and tests revealed that the enrichment and expansion of zinc in the tuyere bricks is the main factor leading to the tuyere upward-warp. The eroding behavior of zinc is that the inner structure of the tuyere bricks turns from dense to loose with entering, enriching and expanding of zinc, which forms spot-like→stripe-like→ditch-like→vein-like→tumor-like eroding passage. Additionally, it is found that the sequence of deleterious elements entering the tuyere refractory is K, Na, Zn and Pb, respectively. Finally, the phenomena and process of zinc crystallization and growth in the refractory have been clearly observed and recorded during this investigation.
