INVESTIGATION ON MECHANICALLY ALLOYED SUPERSATURATED NANOCRYSTALLINE Al-Ti ALLOYS

The Al_(100-x)Ti_(x)(x = 5,10,15,35) mixed powders were mechanically alloyed in a planetary bull mill. It was found that the initial composition strongly affects the final productsi a mixture of supersaturated solid solution Al(Ti) and a fee phase for x = 5 and 10; and a single supersaturated solid solution Al(Ti)for x=15 and 35. With inereasing Ti contents from 5at% to 35at%, the grain size of solid solution Al(Ti) decreased from 40nm to 10nm. The results suggest that fast diffusion along nanocrystalline grain boundary is the main alloying process. DSC curves and TEM observation indicate that the solute atom segregation can thermally stabilize the nanocrvstalline solid solutions.

Introduction to atmospheric corrosion research in China

In this paper, we introduce the research on atmospheric corrosion in China. We describe the climate characteristics and the classification of atmospheric corrosivity across the whole country. This paper briefiy introduces the R&D of intermetallics in China. R&D on intermetallics in a national scale in China began near ten years ago. The investigation in past years focused on the fundamental research and materials development. A significant progress has been made. Various components that made of Ti3Al Ni3Al, TiAl and Fe3Al have been successfully manufactured Some of them have been evaluted. It is expected that some intermetallic alloys will be produced in an industrial scale in the near future.

Further development of NdFeB magnet industry in China

Due to continued growth in key markets, a broadening of application base and performance improvements, the market demands of NdFeB magnet increased steadily in 1998, and the global output of sintered NdFeB magnet exceeded 10,000 t, in spite of the economic recession in Asia. In 1998 China produced 3,850 t sintered NdFeB block magnet, with an annual growth rate of +22% over the output in 1997.

Domain structures in rutile in ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic rocks from Dabie Mountains, China

According to the HRTEM study, the UHP jadeite-quartzite mineral (Rutile, TiO2) in Anhui Province, Dabie Mountains, China, has ultrastructures such as <011> two-dimensional commensurable modulated structures or superstructures, {011} twin domain structures, dislocations and crystal deformations. The SAED patterns and HRTEM images indicate the existence of the deformations and stacking faults on the interface of {011} twin crystal of rutile and its two-dimensional commensurate modulated structures with repetition period 0.753 nm (3d(011)) has tetragonal symmetry, cell parameters a = 3a(0) = 1.377 nm (a(0) = 0.459 nm), c = c(0) = 0.3 nm. The modulated structures of rutile were probably caused by the isomorphic replacement of Ti4+ and position modulation or occupation modulation of oxygen atoms in different degree; the deformation structures reveal that during the process of crystallization and mineralization, this mineral may be affected by the geological environment (such as temperature, pressure and stress), metamorphism and deformation. Development of rapidly quenched soft magnetic materials in China

The discovery of the first Fe-based ferromagnetic amorphous alloy in 1966 had made an impact on conventional magnetic materials because of its unique properties. Since then, a number of amorphous magnetic materials have been successfully developed and used in a wide variety of applications. A brief review of R & D activities on amorphous soft magnetic materials in China is given from the beginning to the present in a somewhat chronological order, followed by a brief introduction to their applications on electric and electronic industries. An analysis and a prospect of Chinese market of such amorphous materials are also presented.
