A new amorphous Al87.3Fe4.3V0.7Si1.7Mm6.0(Mm: misch metal) was prepared by using melt-spinning technique. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD). transmis-sion electron microscopy (TEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) have been used to investigatethe crystallization behaviour of thi5 amorphous alloy It is found that the crystallization processcan be concluded as follows: amorphous→ amorphous plus fcc-Al→ fcc-Al plus AI11(La,Ce)3plus i-phase (icosahedral)→ fcc-Al plus Al11(La,Ce)3 plus i-phase plus ic-phase (icosahedralcompounds). The results of microhardness measurement show that HV values are higher thanthose in Al-Fe-V-Si based alloy and the maximum HV value corresponds to the coexisting ofnanoscale Al particles and i-phase.

The domain structures in calcium-cerium fluorocarbonate mineral series from a rare earth mineral deposit within an aegirine alkali granite massif in Mianning County, Sichuan Province, China, were studied by means of transmission electron microscopy. Many categories of domain structures in this mineral series were observed and investigated, including the microtwin domains of parisite-6R(2) and B2S-6R, the antiphase domains of B2S-2H. The results show that the antiphase domains which are faults along crystal plane (0001) are formed by the displacement of crystal lattice in c * direction and the displacement is 0.471 nm. A new polytype (B4S2-3R) of regular mixed-layer structure with B4S2 type is found in the domain region of mixed-layer structure.

The failure of a fluid catalysis and cracking unit (FCCU) in a Chinese refinery was investigated by using nondestructive detection methods, fracture surface examination, hardness measurement, chemical composition and corrosion products analysis. The results showed that the failure was caused by the dew point nitrate stress corrosion cracking. For a long operation period, the wall temperature of the regenerator in the FCCU was below the fume dew point. As a result, an acid fume NOx-SOx-H2O medium presented on the surface, resulting in stress corrosion cracking of the component with high residual stress. In order to confirm the relative conclusion, simulated testing was conducted in laboratory, and the results showed similar cracking characteristics. Finally, some suggestions have been made to prevent the stress corrosion cracking of an FCCU from re-occurring in the future.

The electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of trigonal Mn(2+) centers in ZnNbOF(5)center dot 6(H(2)O) and CoNbOF(5)center dot 6(H(2)O) crystals are studied on the basis of the complete energy matrices for a d(5) configuration ion in a trigonal ligand field. It is demonstrated that the local lattice structure around a trigonal Mn(2+) center has an elongation distortion along the crystalline c(3) axis, and when Mn(2+) is doped in the ZnNbOF(5)center dot 6(H(2)O) and CoNbOF(5)center dot 6(H(2)O) crystals, there is a similar local distortion. From the EPR calculation, the local lattice structure parameters for trigonal Mn(2+) centers in ZnNbOF(5)center dot 6(H(2)O) and CoNbOF(5)center dot 6(H(2)O) are determined.

On the basis of the defect model of trigonal Dy3+-O2- center in CaF2, the EPR parameters (g factors and hyperfine structure constants) for this trigonal center are calculated from the perturbation formulas. In the formulas, the contributions to EPR parameters due to the J-mixing among H-6(J) (J = 15/2, 13/2 and 11/2) states, the mixtures among the states with the same J-value and those between the lowest Kramers doublet Gamma(gamma) and other Kramers doublets Gamma(X) are included. In the calculation, the crystal field parameters are estimated from the superposition model. From the calculation, the EPR g factors g(\\), g(perpendicular to) are reasonably explained and the superposition model intrinsic parameters (A) over bar (2)(F-) and (A) over bar (2) (O2-) with R = 2.366 Angstrom are obtained. The corrosion field experienced a rapid growth in knowledge and innovations in the last decade. In this paper, a bibliometric analysis was applied to evaluate the global scientific production of corrosion papers (46,384 pieces) front 1992 to 2007 in all journals of all the subject categories of the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) compiled by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), Philadelphia, USA. The analysis of the published Outputs showed that research on corrosion increased steadily over the past 16 years and the researchers from the EU, the USA and China contributed greatly to the rise in publications. Synthetically analyzing the information including international cooperation, subject category, distribution Of journals, document type, document language and author keywords, the development of corrosion research over the past 16 years has been visualized and several key findings were provided. This bibliometric method can help relevant researchers realize the panorama of global corrosion research, and establish the further research direction.

According to the results of four-year exposure tests for carbon steel samples in Hainan province, the influences of meteorological factors and Cl- on atmospheric corrosion were investigated. The feature of atmospheric corrosion in this area was summarized. A corrosive map for the area was drawn. The corrosion products on carbon steel at some typical places were analyzed by XRD and XPS.
