A DCPD TECHNIQUE FOR LOCALIZED CREEP DAMAGE IN NOTCHED BARS

Localized creep damage in a notched round specimen has been investigated in this paper based on the creep damage mechanics and the DCPD technique. Expressions of creep damage equivalent stress under multi-axial state are given to describe the validity for localized damage in ductile materials. A DCPD method is introduced into the measurement of local creep damage near the tip of V-type notch of round bar. The technique with instrument configuration, selection of probe position and measuring calibration is also presented in the paper. Some results of creep damage estimation are shown on 2.25Cr-1Mo at 550℃.

Influence of magnetic fields on the mechanical loss of Terfenol-D/PbZr(0.52)Ti(0.48)O(3)/Terfenol-D laminated composites

The influence of magnetic fields on the mechanical loss (Q(-1)) of Terfenol-D/PbZr(0.52)Ti(0.48)O(3)/Terfenol-D three-layer laminated composites is investigated systemically using the technique for measuring the resonance magnetoelectric (ME) effect. The results indicate that Q(-1) varies non-monotonically with dc magnetic fields and shows a maximum near 500 Oe for all the samples with different layer thickness ratios (n) of Terfenol-D (Tb(0.3)Dy(0.7)Fe(1.92)). Considering various kinds of mechanical energy dissipation, it is found that Q(-1) is mainly dominated by the mechanical damping due to the domain wall motion in Terfenol-D under the actions of dc and ac magnetic fields as well as the stress at the interface. In addition, the effect of eddy current losses on the energy dissipation of the system is also discussed. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

3D Bioplotting of Gelatin/Alginate Scaffolds for Tissue Engineering: Influence of Crosslinking Degree and Pore Architecture on Physicochemical Properties

Gelatin/Alginate hydrogels were engineered for bioplotting in tissue engineering. One major drawback of hydrogel scaffolds is the lack of adequate mechanical properties. In this study, using a bioplotter, we constructed the scaffolds with different pore architectures by deposition of gelatin/alginate hydrogels layer-by-layer. The scaffolds with different crosslinking degree were obtained by post-crosslinking methods. Their physicochemical properties, as well as cell viability, were assessed. Different crosslinking methods had little influence on scaffold architecture, porosity, pore size and distribution. By contrast, the water absorption ability, degradation rate and mechanical properties of the scaffolds were dramatically affected by treatment with various concentrations of crosslinking agent (glutaraldehyde). The crosslinking process using glutaraldehyde markedly improved the stability and mechanical strength of the hydrogel scaffolds. Besides the post-processing methods, the pore architecture can also evidently affect the mechanical properties of the scaffolds. The crosslinked gelatin/alginate scaffolds showed a good potential to encapsulate cells or drugs.

B2O3和CaF2对C3S-C2.75B1.25A3S-C2S-C3A水泥熟料矿物体系力学性能影响

研究了B2O3和CaF2对C3S-C2.75B1.25A3S-C2S-C3A熟料矿物体系的组成、结构与力学性能的影响.研究结果表明:在该熟料体系中C3S,C2.75B1.25A3S,C2S和C3A的适宜含量分别为50%,10%,25%和15%,B2O3和CaF2的适宜掺量为2%和1.5%.在最佳组成和制备工艺条件下,合成的阿利特-硫铝酸钡钙水泥的1d,3d和28d抗压强度分别达到18MPa,48MPa和95MPa以上,展现了良好的早期力学性能.同时,掺加CaF2能有效降低熟料中游离氧化钙的含量,促进阿利特在低温条件下形成.利用SEM-EDS,XRD等测试手段对熟料的组成、结构及性能进行了分析.

Variations of Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Si-B-O-N Ceramics with Sintering Temperatures

Si-B-O-N powder without B-O bonds synthesized by polymeric precursor were hot-pressed into ceramics at different temperatures. The variations of microstructure and mechanical properties of Si-B-O-N ceramics have been investigated. Crystallization of Si-B-O-N ceramics occurred at about 1400°C. Density, elastic modulus, and flexural strength of the ceramics increased with the increasing sintering temperatures, and reached to their maximum values at 1600°C. By contrast,hardness and fracture toughness of the ceramics monotonically changed with increasing sintering temperatures. Hardness decreased, while the fracture toughness increased. The principal toughening mechanisms including crack deflection, crack bridging and plate grain pulling-out effects are discussed

MODIFICATION OF SURFACE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF POLYCARBONATE BY B+ AND O+ IONS IMPLANTATION

By implanting B+ and O+ ions respectively into polycarbonate (PC) plates, the sur-face mechanical properties of PC have been improved. Measurement by Nano IndenterⅡ showed that the hardness of samples increased 7-25 times than that before implan-tation; and the modulus of elasticity raised 2-5 times. The wear-resistance was testedby ball crusher; the width and depth of the wear-streak decreased by 1/3-1/2 or evenmore. The structure, deformation and appearance were analyzed by using Micro-FTIR Spectra, ESCA method and the steps instrument. These analyses showed thatthe structure of PC had been modified: a series of new cross-linking yielded, it de-pends on the Linear Energy Transition (LET) of implanted ions in the high polymercompounds.

3d金属离子Bi位替代对新型层状超导体Bi4O4S3超导电性的影响

文章报道了3d金属离子X(X=Fe3+,Co3+,Mn4+)少量掺杂对新近发现的超导体Bi4O4S3结构及超导电性的影响.粉末X射线衍射数据表明,少量3d金属离子X的掺杂对晶格结构几乎没有影响.观察发现随着掺杂离子X半径的减少,超导转变宽度△Tc变窄,也就是少量3d金属离子X的掺入提高了Bi4O4S的超导电性.3d金属离子X的部分掺入提高了Bi4O4S3超导转变温度是一个非常值得关注的现象.

Influence of Nitrogen Flow Ratio on the Microstructure, Composition, and Mechanical Properties of DC Magnetron Sputtered Zr-B-O-N Films

Nanocrystalline ZrB2 film and nanocomposite Zr-B-O-N films were prepared by non-reactive as well as reactive magnetron sputtering techniques, respectively. By means of X-ray diffraction analysis, electron probe microanalysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy, the influence of nitrogen flow ratio on the film microstructure and characteristics were investigated systematically, including the deposition rate, chemical compositions, phase constituents, grain size, chemical bonding, as well as cross-sectional morphologies. Meanwhile, the hardness and adhesion of above films were also evaluated by micro-indentation method and a scratch tester. With increasing the nitrogen flow ratio, the deposition rate of above films decreased approximately linearly, whereas the contents of N and O in the films increased gradually and tended to saturation. Moreover, the film microstructure was also altered gradually from a fine columnar microstructure to a featureless glass-structure. As the nitrogen flow ratio was 11.7%, the Zr-B-O-N film possessed an typical nanocomposite structure and presented good mechanical properties. During the process of reactive sputtering of metal borides, the introduction of nitrogen can show a pronounced suppression of columnar grain growth and strong nanocomposite structure forming ability.

Evaluating and Modeling the Mechanical Properties of the Prepared PLGA/nano-BCP Composite Scaffolds for Bone Tissue Engineering

In this paper, preparation of nano-biphasic calcium phosphate (nBCP), mechanical behavior and load-bearing of poly (lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) and PLGA/nBCP are presented. The nBCP with composition of 63/37 (w/w) HA/β-TCP (hydroxyapatite/β-tricalcium phosphate) was produced by heating of bovine bone at 700°C. Composite scaffolds were made by using PLGA matrix and 10-50 wt% nBCP powders as reinforcement  material. All scaffolds were prepared by thermally induced solid-liquid phase separation (TIPS) at -60°C under 4 Pa (0.04 mbar) vacuum. The results of elastic modulus testing were adjusted with Ishai-Cohen and Narkis models for rigid polymeric matrix and compared to each other. PLGA/nBCP scaffolds with 30 wt% nBCP showed the highest value of yield strength among the scaffolds. In addition, it was found that by increasing the nBCP in scaffolds to 50 wt%, the modulus of elasticity was highly enhanced. However, the optimum value of yield strength was obtained at 30 wt% nBCP, and the agglomeration of reinforcing particles at higher percentages caused a reduction in yield strength. It is clear that the elastic modulus of matrix has the significant role in elastic modulus of scaffolds, as also the size of the filler particles in the matrix.
