The corrosion behavior of copper in deionized water without and with 3-amino-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole (3-AMT) was investigated. Potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). and weight-loss measurements were applied to study the metal corrosion behavior in the absence and presence of different concentrations of 3-AMT under the influence of various experimental conditions. Results showed that 3-AMT was an efficient inhibitor, improving inhibition efficiency (IE%) up to 93.5 at a concentration of 6 x 10(-5) M. Polarization curves showed that the studied compound acted as a mixed inhibitor. The degree of surface coverage of the adsorbed inhibitor was determined using the alternating current (AC) impedance technique. and the results obeyed the Langmuir isotherm. The thermodynamic parameters of inhibitor adsorption were calculated.
