Direct reduction is an iron smelting process for producing metallic iron using gas, liquid fuels and non-coke coal as energy to reduce pellets, lump ore and fine ore under solid state. The research situation of global direct reduction technology was introduced and reviewed, which showed that development of direct reduction technology would have greater market demand. Rotary hearth furnace methods were introduced emphatically. Large-scale production of this technology has not yet reached the mature stage, but has good prospects for development.
