This paper discusses the research achievements of ca vitation damage mechanisms.Although there is enormous literatures concerned with the mechanical effects causing cavitation damage.However,corrosi ve effects, which plays an important role in the process of the cavitation damag e, are seldom studied. The cavitation damage is actually caused by the combinati on of mechanical and corrosive effects. In order to obtain a complete understand ing of the mechanisms, additional research about interactive mechanism of corros ive and mechanical effects and the quantitative relationships between the two ef fects are required. This paper has proposed a new assumption by which the interp lay of corrosion and mechanical effects can be understood.
