Self-crosslinking styrene-acrylic emulsion coating agent for paper was prepared by emulsion polymerization with styrene(St),butyl acrylate(BA),methyl methacrylate(MMA),acrylic acid(AA),hydroxyethyl acrylate(HEA) as raw materials, and the solid content of the emulsion was up to 40%.Effects of monomers concentration on the mechanical properties of film were investigated. It was found that the emulsion film was endowed with excellent mechanical property and thermal stability when m(MMA)=11.5%,m(AA)=6.9%,m(HEA)=11.5% and m(St)/m(BA)=1∶2.And the average particle size of the emulsion was 128.9nm with narrow particle size distribution.
