This paper reports a promising route to synthesize multiferroic Pb(Fe(2/3)W(1/3))O(3) by sol-gel method with inorganic salts of (CH(3)COO)(2)Pb center dot H(2)O, Fe(NO(3))(3)center dot 9H(2)O, and (NH(4))5H(5)[H(2)(WO(4))(6)]center dot H(2)O.The pyrochlore phase was largely suppressed by increasing the calcination temperature, and high purity of perovskite phase was obtained at 725 degrees C which is much lower than the temperature used in other synthesizing processes. Microstructural investigations revealed that the synthesized Pb(Fe(2/3)W(1/3))O(3) particles have cubic morphology and superlattice crystal structure. The formation of Pb(Fe(2/3)W(1/3))O(3) was not sensitive to the pH value of the solution, which is another advantage of this sol-gel method. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
