Ultra-fine and nanocrystalline Pr doped SrTiO3:0.002Pr phosphor was prepared by sol-gel method. The phase formation and luminescent property of the samples were characterized by differential thermal analysis(DTA),X-ray diffraction(XRD)and spectrophotometer. The results of DTA and XRD showed that prepared gels began to transform into the strontium titanate with cubic perovskite phase by heat treatment at 500℃and the reaction was completed approximately at about 935℃.At 935℃the grain size was estimated to be about 82 nm through Scherrer's formula. The luminescent results showed a strong dependence of the luminescent intensity on heating temperature for the gels. The red emission peak at 617 nm was attributed to1D2→3H4 of Pr3+ ions, which increased gradually as the calcination temperature rose from 600℃to 1300℃.The luminescent intensity at 1300℃was enhanced about 7.4 times compared with that obtained at 600℃.However,the site and shape of emission peak remained.
