The effect of order-disorder on magnetic properties of FeAl intermetallic deserves much attention. Many experimental and theoretical studies indicate that perfect ordered FeAl is nonmagnetic. However, the long-range order of ordered FeAl could be destroyed by non-equilibrium techniques, such as rapid quenching, cold-working treatment, sputtering, co-evaporation and mechanical alloying. Based on the empirical electron theory of solid and molecule (EET) and Jaccarino-Walker model, our calculation predicts that the completely disordered FeAl is ferromagnetic and has the average magnetic moment of 1.41μB per Fe atom.
