PA6/PTT blends were prepared by twin screw extruders after mixing poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) with polyamide 6 (PA6). The water absorptivity of the PA6/PTT blends was investigated by water immersion tests in combination with scanning electron microscope (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). General mechanical properties tests were also conducted in this paper. The results show that the amount of absorbed water in the blends decreases with the increase of PTT content, which indicates that the PTT phase can effectively restrain the PA6 phase from absorbing water. Mechanical tests also show that after absorbing water under the same conditions the general mechanical properties of PA6/PTT blends are obviously better than those of pure PA6. When the PTT content is 20%, the tensile and bending yield strength of PA6/PTT after absorbing water is improved by 20.89 % and 71.73 % respectively as compared to those of pure PA6.
