This paper presents a review of the application of electrochemical techniques in studying the microbially influenced corrosion (MIC) process of metals and their alloys. Some electrochemical techniques used in microbiology and biofilm study are discussed as well as some classic electrochemical techniques, such as corrosion potential, redox potential, polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, electrochemical noise and microelectrode techniques. Electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) which is seldom used in MIC study is also discussed.
