A mesoscopic cellular automaton (CA) modeling was developed to predict the microstructural evolution of the austenite recrystallization during multi-pass hot rolling of steel strip. This physically-based modeling has integrated the effects of the individual metallurgical phenomena related with the steel strip hot rolling, including hot deformation, static recrystallization (SRX), meta-dynamic recrystallization (Meta-DRX) and dynamic recrystallization (DRX), etc. It provides a link of multi-scale modeling to bridge the macroscopic thermo-mechanical parameters and the mesoscopic microstructure, enabling both quantitative and topographic prediction of the microstructural evolution during industrial hot-rolling processing. The results were compared with the predictions of a previous empirically-based model and were found to be in good agreement. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
