gamma-TiAl is attractive for high temperature application, but requires a coating to resist oxidation. In this work, a beta-NiAl coating was fabricated on gamma-TiAl through a two-step process: electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of particles of Ni and Al and then hot pressing (HP). The beta-NiAl coating was insignificantly degraded by interdiffusion with the gamma-TiAl substrate and formed an adherent alumina scale by adding a small amount of Y2O3 particles during oxidation at 900 degrees C.
