The potentiodynamic polarization behaviour of Ni3Al implanted with different doses of Cr+, B+ and Cr+-B+ combined in solutions of 0.25 M NaCl+0.25 M Na2SO4 (pH 6) and 1 M NaCl (pH 1) respectively were studied. Both Cr+- and B+-implanted samples have better pitting corrosion resistance than an unimplanted sample. Smaller pits and lower pit density are observed on implanted samples. The most obvious effect is that the corrosion current density decreases with increasing dose, by between one and three orders of magnitude. It was found that a good passive film formed on the Cr+-implanted sample, which improves the pitting corrosion resistance of Ni3Al. Boron is more difficult to dissolve than Ni3Al. There is a nearly insulating film on the pitting surface, which diminishes the further corrosion of the inner alloy. The combined-implanted sample shows a better performance than those implanted with only one element.
