A locomotive wheel tyre was fracture in the course of using. In order to find out the fracture reason, SEM and metallographic microscope have been used to analyse the fracture surface, cracks and microstructure on the fractured locomotive wheel tyre. The resalts show that the fracture belongs to fatigue fracture, which is due to the weld structure on the inner diameter surface outboard of the mounting groove of the wheel tyre retaining ring.
