Nano-Ti particles with grain sizes of 56 nm similar to 128 nm were modified by inoculating an organic amine functional group onto their surface using a two-step process. These modified nano-Ti particles were dispersed into the bisphenol A-type epoxy resin and then cured with polyamide to form a coating on the metal substrates. The results of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed that the organic aminefunctional group on the surface of nano-Ti particles could enhance the interfacial interaction between the particles and epoxy resin. The results of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) showed that the protection performances of the epoxy coatings dispersed with modified nano-Ti particles were further improved in comparison to coatings with unmodified ones.
