5 macroscopic examination methods of sulphur print, hot etching,electrolytic acid cleaning etching,cold etching and dendrite corrosion were summarized. Dendritical etching is able to illustrate clearly the solidification structures and its defects of casting slabs. It is the best choice to study the slab defect and improve slab quality. The advantage of dendrite corrosion is proved by comparing the testing illustrations with different methods.
