Phased mining is a flexible mining method applied in open mining of metallic mines .It can effectively delay stripping peak ,reduce infrastructure investment and evade investment risk .The paper takes Jiama polymetallic mine for engineering background ,in detail introduces the application of long-term and short-term phased mining in the design of the second phase of the expansion projects of hornstone and skarn open -mining mines .The flexible use of long-term and short-term phased mining in expansion projects makes the exploitation of resources more economical and reasonable .
